    390 shirts

Solve for x, number of shirts

    $2,255 = $6x - $85 rebate

    (add 85 to both sides)

    $2340 = 6x

    (divide by 6)

    2340/6 = 390 shirts

    390 shirts

    Explanation:

if actual expense is 2255 then this expense is actually the cash paid to the shirt company. So, the actual amount to be owed by the school will be

    2255+85 = 2340

Now in order to calculate the number of shirts we need to divide this total amount by price of one shirt.

    2340/6 = 390 shirts
