According to W. E. B. Du Bois, "The true college will ever have one goal-not to earn meat, but to know the end and aim of that life which meat nourishes." By this Du Bois meant that the purpose of higher education is to expand our understanding of the world around us, rather than just to increase our chances of benefiting materially.
