An obvious advantage of using the algebraic method is that it produces a much more reliable and accurate answer every time, and it even allows you to double check your work by plugging x and y back in! A disadvantage is that it takes a longer amount of time, as well as requiring a greater knowledge of how to solve algebraic problems.
