The test that can be used is the sniff test. Grave accidents also can happen when fueling a personal watercraft (PWC). Dripped or leaked fuel can go up in flames and explode, especially in an enclosed space. PWC operators should pay particular awareness to these fueling guidelines.

    · Check the entire fuel system for leaks and inspect fuel system connections frequently.

    · Evade fuel spills when fueling in or near the water.

    · Do not lean the PWC in order to fill it all the way up. The tank is intended to leave space for the fuel to enlarge. If the tank is overflowing, the fuel may expand and leak into the water.

    · After fueling, open the door of the engine compartment and sniff to check for any evidence of gas fumes. Do this before starting the engine. If you do smell gas vapors, find out the source and make repairs straight away. This is the sniff test.
