    Many years ago, it was rather straightforward in the United States to differentiate between the classes of the society using their material possessions and wealth.

    However, because of the advent of technology, material possessions are not quite revealing of a person's economic status anymore. This is because the luxury and technological products that could only be afforded by the rich and wealthy in the past, are now cheap enough to be afforded by poor people.

    In summary, because of cheaper technology, material possessions are now becoming not quite revealing anymore of a person's economic status.
