You and another student do an experiment to measure the volume of a pipet that is supposed to be 25mL. You both measure the volume of your pipets three times. Your three measurements are 24.8 mL, 25.2 mL, and 25.1 mL (average = 25.0 mL). Their three measurements are 25.8 mL, 24.2 mL, and 25.5 mL (average = 25.2 mL). Which of the sets of data is more accurate? Their data is more accurate. Neither sets of data are accurate. Your data is more accurate.

The answer is your data is more accurate.

    Explanation:

A pipette is a graduated line used to measure volume more than one and is used to accurately measure and transfer small volumes of liquids.

The volume of a pipette is supposed to be 25 ml.

Your three measurement = 24.8 ml, 25.2 ml, 25.1 ml

    average of your measurements = (24.8 ml + 25.2 ml + 25.1 ml) / 3

    = 25.0 ml

Their three measurement = 25.8 ml, 24.2 ml, 25.5 ml

    average of their measurements = (25.8 ml + 24.2 ml + 25.5 ml) / 3

    = 25.2 ml.

By comparing both sets of readings we get,

Your readings are more accurate than their readings because the actual value of the volume of the pipette is equal to average readings of your's measurements (25 ml).

Hence Your data is more accurate.
