A sample of hydrated magnesium sulfate, mgso4 xh2o, weighs 21.0 g. it is placed inside of an oven until all of the water is vaporized, the anhydrous form weighs 12.0 g. what is the value of x in the hydrated salt? mgso4 = 120 gmol-1.

    No. of mol of H2O = 9/18=0.5mol

    no. of mol of anhydrous MgSO4 = 12/120=0.1mol

    If there is 1 mol of anhydrous MgSO4, there would be 5 mol of H2O

    So, x=5
