The evaporation of liquid water from the surface of the earth is an important step in the water cycle. How do water molecules obtain enough kinetic energy to escape into the gas state?

    The sun heats up the molecules, which makes them move faster and faster. The molecules escape into gas when the kinetic energy of the molecule is higher than the force that keeps it together.
