How is a column of mercury in a barometer affected when moved to a higher altitude?

    B. The Mercury will be lower because when you go to higher elevation there is less air pressure. Barometers like that work by air pushing down on a pool of mercury which pushes it into a thin tube. The less air pressure, the less force on the Mercury and the less it can climb up the tube.
