A 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask has a measured volume of 287mL. The experiment is performed with a this flask but the volume of 250 mL is mistakenly used in the molar mass calculation. What effect does this error have on the calculated molecular weight? Briefly explain (Too High, Too low, Unchanged).

There will be a high effect on the calculation because a lower molar mass will be reported.

    Explanation:

    Hello,

In this case, since a higher volume is used, a higher value is taken into account when dividing to get the molecular mass. In such a way, the calculated molecular mass will be surely lower than the real molecular mass implying that there will be a high effect on the required calculation, nevertheless, as 37mL is a considerable mistake, the effect won't be too high.

    Best regards.
