Could a 3 ion of aluminum be made by adding three protons to an aluminum atom

    Protons cannot be so easily added to an atom, so this method cannot be used to produce ions. Protons are found in the nucleus which is held together by strong forces. This means that its structure is not easily changed. Bombarding it with a proton may even cause its decay, just as in nuclear fission a nucleus is bombarded with neutrons.
