The source for the ultraviolet (UV) radiation in Earth's atmosphere is the Sun. Despite the ultraviolet radiation, the Sun emits also other kinds of electromagnetic radiation, visible light (99% of its rays) and infrared rays (also known as heat). The UV radiation is absorbed in the ozone layer of the atmosphere before reaching the Earth.
