    Stronger bonds give infrared signals at c. higher wavenumbers.

    Stronger bonds have higher vibrational energies.

    E = hν = hc/λ

    But ν̅ = 1/λ

    ∴ E = hcν̅

    ν̅ increases as bond strength increases.
