When is it necessary to draw a multiple bond in a lewis structure?

    A Lewis structure is just a representation of the distribution of the valence electrons of the elements as lone pairs or as bonds. So, if the nature of substance you want to present in Lewis structure is unsaturated, then you have to draw the multiple bonds, like alkenes (double bonds) and alkynes (triple bonds).
