Glaciers are the agents of erosion is mainly responsible for the formation of the depressions occupied by the Finger Lakes and kettle lakes found in NYS

    Explanation:

Kettles are lake forms formed when glaciers recede along with the eroded sediment and deposits at the flat ground surface below the glacier mountain.

Huge depressions are formed on the earth's surface where water and other glacier sediments get settled forming the kettle lakes. When a block of stagnated ice called serac comes separate from a glacier, it gets buried along with the sediment. Later it slowly melts to form a water body or kettles.

The depressions found in the long narrow Finger Lakes of the New York State were formed due to the kettle formation from glaciers. These narrow strips of water bodies resembles an outstretched palm with fingers extended and hence called Finger Lakes.
