The₍compound of unknown metal is XBr₃

we shall calculate how much of X reacts with 3 x 80 g of Br. It will be equal to atomic weight of X ...

    4.760 x 10⁻² mol of Br = 4.760 x 10⁻² x 80 gram of Br

    = 3.808g

    So 4.735 g of sample contains 3.808 g of Br and (4.735 - 3.808) =.927 g of metal

    3.808 g of Br reacts with. 927 g of metal X

    3 X 80 g of Br will react with (.927 / 3.808) x 3 x 80 g of metal X

    = 58.42 g of X

    So atomic weight = 58.42 g
