    Given dа ta:

Number of moles of NaOH = 2 mol

    Number atoms = ?

    Solution:

The given problem will solve by using Avogadro number.

It is the number of atoms, ions and molecules in one gram atom of element, one gram molecules of compound and one gram ions of a substance.

The number 6.022 * 10²³ is called Avogadro number.

    For example,

    18 g of water = 1 mole = 6.022 * 10²³ molecules of water

    1.008 g of hydrogen = 1 mole = 6.022 * 10²³ atoms of hydrogen

So in 2 mol of NaOH:

    1 mol = 6.022 * 10²³ molecules of NaOH

    2 mol * 6.022 * 10²³ molecules NaOH / 1mol

    12.044 * 10²³ molecules NaOH

we can determine the number of atoms of each elements.

one mole of NaOH contain 1 mole sodium atom one mole hydrogen atom and one mole of oxygen atom.

    1 mol = 6.022 * 10²³ H atoms

    1 mol = 6.022 * 10²³ O atoms

    1 mol = 6.022 * 10²³ Na atoms

    So 2 mol,

    2 mol = 2 * 6.022 * 10²³ H atoms = 12.044 * 10²³ H atoms

    2 mol = 2 * 6.022 * 10²³ O atoms = 12.044 * 10²³ O atoms

    2 mol = 2 * 6.022 * 10²³ Na atoms = 12.044 * 10²³ Na atoms

    Total = 36.132 * 10²³ atoms
