The chemist needs to increase the chain length to make the color more vivid. Increased polyene chain length will reduce the frequency and raise the wavelength to purple.

E = hc / λ

with the modification will shift the color to red. The chain lengthens decreases energy and wavelength when the chain is reduced and increases light absorption energy, which lowers the diameter of the molecule
