What is the purpose of adding chlorine to water during the water treatment process?

    It is a chemical disinfection method for the oxidation and disinfection of what will be the potable water source. In order to combat water borne diseases, different disinfection methods are used to inactivate pathogens. This method, chlorine or chlorine-containing substances was first used over a century ago, and is still used today.
