Carbon compounds have long been associated as insulators but now we have carbon based materials (small molecules and polymers) widely being used in mobile phones and TV screens as OLEDs. What makes organic molecules work as semiconductors? Alternation of single bonds between two carbon atoms. Alternation of single and double bond between two carbon atoms. Alternation of single and triple bond between two carbon atoms. None of these.

Alternation of single and double bond between two carbon atoms.

    Explanation:

What makes the organic compounds act as semiconductors are the pi-bonded molecules, pi-bonds are double bonds that are delocalized and therefore can be single or double bonds along the molecule. So the correct answer is Alternation of single and double bond between two carbon atoms.
