    A bright-line spectrum of sodium is produced when energy is absorbed as electrons move from higher to lower electron shells. Electrical energy tends to excite electrons causing them to have this reaction. When an electron is excited with electricity the electrons tend to move up a shell. Moving up a shell makes the electrons unstable. Eventually, these unstable electrons will come back down a shell and what will be left are emissions of photons. These photons form different wavelengths resulting to a bright-line spectrum.
