    5g sucrose

    Explanation:

The solution of 50mL can be assumed to the same density as water (1g/mL), and therefore a mass of 50g. A solution of 10% sucrose has 5g of sucrose:

    (50g) (0.10) = 5g

In order to make the solution, 5g of sucrose should be added to about 40mL of water and dissolved completely. The solution may then be poured into a 50mL volumetric flask and diluted to the mark.
