Equal volumes of an unknown gas and nitrogen () gas take 5.37 min and 3.55 minutes, respectively, to effuse through a small hole. calculate the molar mass (in g/mol) of the unknown gas.

    Because the unknown gas effuses slower, we know it must have a higher molar mass The N2 effuses 5.37 minutes / 3.55 minutes = 1.513 times faster. 1.513 = (X / 28.01 g/mole) ^0.5 where X and 28.01 are the molar masses of the unknown gas and N2 respectively. X = 64.1 g/mole
