    It is the reaction in which one reactant is break down into two or more product.

    For example:

    2NaCl → 2Na + Cl₂

    Sodium chloride is ionic compound. It is made of two constituents sodium and chloride. When it decompose it gives its constituents element sodium and and chlorine.

    Another example:

    2Al₂O₃ → 4Al + 3O₂

    Aluminium oxide decompose and gives its constituent elements aluminium and oxygen.
