    If only spontaneous reactions occurred, then some biological functions such as enzymes would be sort of useless. If reactions happened immediately instead of over a certain period of time, then cellular respiration and such would be pretty screwed up, given that ATP synthesis is pretty darn resourceful as is. In short, the physiology would be very messed up.
