    Mg (ClO₃) ₂ → MgCl₂ + O₂

    Look at the number of atoms in the reactant side and compare them to the number of atoms in the product side

    Reactant Product

    Mg = 1 Mg = 1

    Cl = 2 Cl = 2

    O = 6 O = 2

    The number of oxygen atoms on the reactant side is not equal to the number of oxygen atoms on the product side. This means that they are not equal.
