Non metals and metal reacts together to form the ionic bond and mutual sharing of electrons occur in covalent bond.
Some of the similarities between the ionic and covalent bond are as follows-
(1) The results that are produced from ionic and covalent bonding both emerges a stable type of molecules.
(2) The reactions involved in the generation of both type of bonds are always exothermic in nature. The potential energy decreases due to the bonding of elements, thereby releases energy in the form of heat.
(3) The molecules obtained by both ionic and covalent bonding are always electrically neutral.

Both of them share electrons, but ionic bonds occur when an atom needs opposite electrons, so between a metal and non-metal compound, and covalent bonds occur when the compounds need similar electrons, between two non-metal compounds.
