PVA stands for Polyvinyl alcohol. It is a synthetic polymer which is water-soluble. It found application in coatings, textiles and papermaking. Aside from being used in face masks, it can be found in eye drops, paper products, contact lens solution and glues. PVA is known to be a biodegradable polymer and is non-toxic. It is odorless and colorless. Its main uses are as an emulsion polymerization substance in order to make polyvinyl acetate or PVAc dispersions. This polymer is not produced by polymerization of its monomer. It is made by polymerizing vinyl acetate then the polyvinyl acetate is then transformed to PVA.
