Photosynthesis takes place inside plant cells in small things called chloroplasts. Chloroplasts (mostly found in the mesophyll layer) contain a green substance called chlorophyll. Below are the other parts of the cell that work with the chloroplast to makephotosynthesis happen.

    Type of organism

In terms of organisms, photosynthesis occurs in autotrophes that contain the green pigment chlorophyll. This would include the entire plant kingdom, "half" of the Protista (the algae), & "half" the Moneran Kingdom (the blue-green algae). On the multicellular level, photosynthesis occurs in the leaves ofplants.
