Haley is trying to pull an object upward. The below forces are acting on the object. Fp=5500 N Fg=6000N. Which represents the net force?

    Net force is ↓ 500 N

    Explanation:

    Here we have

    Fp = ↑ 5500 N = pulling force of Haley

    Fg = ↓ 6000 N = Downward acting force of gravity (weight) on the object

    Therefore the net force is then given by;

    Net force = 5500 N - 6000 N = - 500 N

    Here we note that in the above equation, it is assumed that the net force will be upwards as we subtracted the Fg force from the Fp force, and since the result is negative, it means our assumption is wrong and the force is in the direction of Fg

    Hence we have the net force as

    Net force = ↓ 500 N = Downward acting force.
