    The atoms arranged in a network solid such as diamond are being held by covalent bonds which join the atoms tightly together. A diamond possess a giant molecular geometry where the repeating contains a carbon atom that is bonded covalently to other four carbon atoms. It follows a FCC or face centered cubic crystal structure. Due to the covalent bond present in every chemical bond present, the diamond structure is known as the hardest compound that exist. The number of covalent bonds that is present makes it so strong that the only thing can break a diamond would also be a diamond and nothing else.
