Non-metals react with oxygen in the air to produce non-metal oxides.
Explanation:
When non metals react with oxygen they form acidic oxides. They turn blue litmus paper to red. Examples are
carbon + oxygen → carbon dioxide
sulphur + oxygen → sulphur dioxide
These oxides dissolve in the water in the clouds to form acid rain. Acid rain damages rocks and buildings, and harms wildlife.
