The atomic number of Ti is 22

the ground state electronic configuration for the neutral atom Ti is

    1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 4s² 3d²

we can write in the condensed form with the nearest noble gas that is Ar with atomic number 18

    [Ar] 4s² 3d²

when Ti loses 2 electrons, it loses it from the outermost shell that is orbital 4s.

Therefore electronic configuration of Ti²⁺ is

    [Ar] 3d²
