The mass percent of chlorine can be calculated using the following rule:
mass % = (mass of chlorine / total compound mass) * 100
From the givens:
mass of chlorine = 2.62 grams
total compound mass = 2.62 + 1.37 = 3.99 grams
Substitute in the equation to get the mass % as follows:
mass % of chlorine = (2.62 / 3.99) * 100 = 65.6641604%
