How many valence electrons does an oxygen atom need to gain in order to become stable? a 1 b 2 c 3 d 4

    B; because to form a stable ion a element requires to have either a full or empty valence electron shell and since oxygen has 6 valence electrons it will tend to fill the valence shell (because it requires less energy) so it gains 2 more to create a total of 8 which fills up its last shell.
