The mixture of sand and sugar can be separated by a simple activity.
AIM: To separate the mixture of sand and sugar. Apparatus required: Conical flask, filter paper, filter funnel, stirring rod, evaporating dish and a beaker. Procedure: Take the mixture of sand and sugar in a beaker. Add some water in the beaker and mix it completely with the stirring rod. Apply the filter paper in the filter funnel and separate the water from this mixture in the conical flask. Now put this filtered water in the evaporating dish and heat this water until the water in it evaporate.
After evaporation, the sugar will left behind in the dish.
Result: The sugar will left behind in the evaporating dish. Precautions: Use proper safety equipment. Filter the mixture of sand and sugar carefully to separate the residue from it.

To separate sugar from sand, add a large amount of water and shake it very hard so the sugar dissolves. This expirement is not possible without water.
