Yes, Rate of subduction is one factor that distinguishes the three phases

    Explanation:

The North America cordilleran Orogeny is a mountain chain along with western side America. Consisting of mountain ranges, basins, and plateaus. As the process of mountain building is a long term process it starts from the upliftment of sediments from the base rock.

The three phases 1. Nevada orogeny, 2. Sevier orogeny, 3. Laramide orogeny

The occurrence of Nevada orogeny on the western margins of North America from the period of middle Jurassic and early cretaceous period formation of an "Andean type" arc due to the subduction of the oceanic plate. Taking only 10 million years to form. The second orogeny took place as a result of the convergent boundary as an impact of tectonic activity about 140 million years ago. And the third orogeny took place from 70 to 80 million years caused due to the subduction of the plate at greater depths. During this orogen, the basin floor and sea level were much closer to the mountain summit than are today.
