Since there are no choices given, I will explain the oxidation number. Oxidation number may also be called as oxidation state where it is the over-all quantity of electrons that an atom can gain or lose in order for it to form a chemical bond with another atom to form a compound. Each element or atom that is involved in the losing or sharing of electron known as redox reaction (oxidation - reaction) has a distinctive oxidation number that has the capability to give, obtain or share electrons. In a neutral substance, the sum of the oxidation number of both atoms in a compound is zero. Lithium has an oxidation number of negative one and oxygen has an oxidation number of negative 2. When sharing electrons, the number of needed electrons must be gained by one element and lost by the other element. The chemical formula is Li2O.
