The lewis dot structure is difficult to represent without the aid of a diagram. However, Hydrogen has one electron in its nearest valence electron shell, while Chlorine has 7 valence electrons. Therefore, one electron from Hydrogen can be shared with Chlorine, resulting in Chlorine with all its valence shells filled.
