    Calculate the mass of the empirical formula

    C = 12

    H=1

    CH2 = 12+2 = 14

    divide the molar mass by the mass of the empirical formula

    224.43/14 = 16

    then the molecular formula will be 16 times the empirical formula

    (CH2) 16

    or

    C16 H32
