Omar wants to determine if the mass of a model rocket affects how long the rocket is able to stay up in the air.     The independent variable in Omar's experiment is the masses of the model rockets. This number is controlled by Omar, because of the difference in sand put in each rocket. The mass of the rockets controls the time in which each rocket remains airborne.
