When carbon-14 undergoes beta decay, it becomes nitrogen-14 and releases a beta particle. This decay happens when there are more protons or neutrons and that one of these protons are being transformed into a neutron or one of the neutrons transformed into a proton. It produces t he beta particle and a new substance.
