A galvanic cell is an electrochemical cell where its electrical energy comes from a oxidation-reduction reaction which occurs spontaneously within a cell. For this galvanic cell, the one being oxidized is zinc while the one being reduced is magnesium. Zinc is oxidized from neutral to a charge of + 2.
