The density of water is 1 g/cm³. The density of diethyl ether is 0.7134 g/cm3, which is lower than water. Diethyl ether has very limited solubility in water (6.05 g/100 ml at 25 °C[3]). Diethyl ether also dissolves 1.5 g/100 g (1.0 g/100 ml) water at 25 °C. Because diethyl ether doesn't form hydrogen bonds, the conditions are limited.
