A growing population will require more housing for shelter which may use trees as building supplies. To cook for a growing population could use fire as fuel to cook food. Trees can be used for so many things and a growing population will need more and more supplies which can be provided by trees. In short, a growing population may reduce your supply of trees due to increased demand for the resource. Even though trees are a renewable resource if you take them faster than they can be replenished you will run out.
