Hexane and water do not form a solution which statment explains this phenomenon

    For two things to dissolve, they have to have similar properties. "like dissolves like"

    hexane is a hydrocarbon molecule. this means it is nonpolar. water is polar. since they are different, they don't mix to form a solution
