Hydrogen chloride (HCl) polar because it has linear symmetry. The chlorine atom has more electrons than the hydrogen atom and because their electrons are not equal on both atoms, the hydrogen chloride is polar. A compound is polar if there is a difference between their elctronegativies, and symmetry.
