What are the similarities between an atom and an ion?

    ions are nothing more than charged atoms. basically when an atom gains or loses electrons, it becomes, charged (positive when it loses electrons and negative when it gains electrons.)

    Ions and atoms both have protons, electrons, and neutrons (except normal hydrogen ions and hydrogen atom.) The difference is that atoms are electrically neutral meaning that have no charge in it while ions do have a charge
