There is more than one kind of balance used in the laboratory.

I don't know what your answer is looking for but the most common type of valence that I have come across in lab is an analytical balance. They are very accurate as well as precise. There are also top loading balances, spring balences, platform balanced, trip balances, and torsion balances. I don't know what the applications are for these balences. As I said before, I have only used analytical balenced in lab.
