Why indicators are important?

    Indicators are special chemical compounds which change their colour or odour when they are introduced to acid, alkali or salt.

    for example, red cabbage extract, litmus paper, methyl orange, phenolphthalein.

    they are used to indicate a certain compound is acidic, basic or normal.
